Our Community Albums & Podcast Series

The community albums are free access recordings made by us for the world. Stemming from indigenous Zimbabwean philosophies, we believe in offering some of our work for free to show gratitude for the support we receive. These recordings capture our music in its communal setting, often made during impromptu music sessions, rehearsals, or practice sessions.

Mudzimu Nditakure: Volume One

On a casual evening, five friends gather to play mbira for their enjoyment, and this recording captures glimpses of those moments of community. This is the first in a series of field self-recordings that will be released through Rayiro Culture Hub documenting the casual music making of Anesu Ndoro and his students (Kudakwashe Chikono, Tatenda Dafi, Evans Marozva, Ashley Dzingai) and friends (Sekuru Solomon Madhinga). The playing is is slow, meditative, and raw - mistakes and all. These recordings aren't meant to be perfect, but to show mbira music as close to its community making roots as possible. Hande Kumarimba!

These marimba field recordings capture a moment in time when Anesu Ndoro was teaching at the USAP Community School (2021 - 2025). Recorded during a typical afternoon Marimba practice session on 23 July, 2024, it showcases how Marimba is a communal instrument, hinging on the collective efforts of all the musicians involved. The performers were rehearsing new songs, and so we thought to record this to show how the middle of the learning process sounds like. All rights reserved.
