RCH works to bridge three big gaps in Zimbabwe's cultural spaces:
Access: Zimbabwe's cultural knowledge is not always accessible to young people from all walks of life, nor to artists seeking to be grounded in their roots;
Innovation: Our cultures' problem-solving potential in our communities is undervalued, often only being seen as entertainment; and
Creativity: Zimbabwe's cultures are sometimes rigidly defined within the bounds of the past, limiting their creative potential in the present and future.
Why Is Rayiro Culture Hub Important?
Our vision
We want to create a world where Zimbabwe's indigenous cultures are considered as assets that can better the lives of their communities. All our project center our simple philosophy that human connection can solve community problems. This is why we believe in creating access to cultural knowledge, driving innovation and inspiring creativity to transform people attitudes about their cultures.
Anesu Ndoro is a Zimbabwean multi-instrumentalist, African instrument builder, and cultural educator. He completed his BA in Anthropology (with a minor in French) in Portland (OR), USA in 2021. He then worked as both the Traditional African Music & Dances instructor and the Humanities teacher (2021 - 2025) at the USAP Community School in Marondera, Zimbabwe. Here, he connected with both students and artists (locally and internationally) through numerous artistic projects.
He served on the Board of Trustees for Tariro Trust Zimbabwe (2023 - 2025), a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to empowering young women through education and traditional music. He now serves as a Board member for Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center, a non-profit in Eugene (OR), USA, a center for teaching and performing Zimbabwean music through close relationships with Zimbabwean artists.
Anesu is currently based in Hong Kong, where he is studying for his MA in Cultural Heritage Management, running a music conservation project in Zimbabwe through the nonprofit Music is Culture, and working as a programs coordinator at the social enterprise Africa Center Hong Kong; all the while making music along the way!
